In 1988, Mike Bruce, a lacrosse player at
Bridgewater-Raritan East, was on his way to take the SAT's when the car skidded on some
wet leaves and hit a tree. Mike was left a quadriplegic dependent on a respirator. He was
a great lacrosse player, and would have been the best player in New Jersey his senior
year. Mike was an outstanding young man, whose quick wit, easy smile, and enthusiasm for
life were contagious. Sadly, Mike died this past winter. We mourn his passing, and pray he
is at peace. In honor of Mike's passion for life and love of lacrosse, we award #8 to an
outstanding senior who best represents these ideals. This year, the team will also wear a
#8 on their jersey in remembrance of Mike. A special thank you to Mrs. Ostroman, for
putting the number 8's on the jersey's.
